The creators of Amazfit watches and Mi Band bracelet presented an Aeri mask with N95 filters, a built-in UV emitter and the ability to install a fan

Aeri project is far from commercial release

Huami, known for its Amazfit smartwatch and Mi Band activity trackers created for Xiaomi, decided to take on a new type of product for itself – masks. Yes, now this is an actual direction, and it will remain so for a rather long time. And given the fact that in China and long before the COVID-19 pandemic, masks were used very actively, masks are quite a reasonable business even for a technology company.

Now the project is at the initial stage. The project itself is called Aeri, and it is being implemented as part of the Project uSmile initiative. The main idea of the project is to create not just a mask, but a mask that will not prevent people from expressing emotions.

As you can see in the images, for this the mask will basically be transparent, and the filters are located on the sides. In addition, such a solution is likely to allow the face recognition functions in smartphones to work properly.

Another interesting feature of the mask is its modularity. In addition to filters, users will be able to install a fan and an AQI block in the mask with sensors that determine air quality, humidity level, and so on. The mask also has a built-in ultraviolet emitter for self-disinfection, which is activated when the mask is not used and … connected to a power source. Yes, the mask also has to be charged. In total, Huami intends to release two modifications of its mask: Aeri X and Aeri Y. They differ, apparently, solely in design.

N95 – a class of filters

As for the filters used, this is N95 – a class of filters, roughly equivalent in terms of FFP2.

Unfortunately, Huami says nothing about the commercial prospects of the project. Most likely, in the coming months, these masks should not be expected.
