A dozen Starlink missions behind: SpaceX launched 60 more satellites

SpaceX has launched another batch of 60 Starlink satellites, which are a key component of the upcoming global broadband Internet service. The Falcon 9 launch vehicle launched from the US Air Force launch site at Cape Canaveral at 18:31 Moscow time.

This is the fifteenth Starlink launch, and to date, SpaceX has launched nearly 900 small satellites in low Earth orbit. This time, the first stage of the Falcon 9 was used, which had previously been used twice – both times this year, with the last one in September and was also implemented within the framework of Starlink. Thus, the first stage successfully returned for the third time, landing on an autonomous barge called Just Read the Instructions in the Atlantic Ocean.

This week, the Ector County Independent School District, Texas, announced itself as a new pilot for the Starlink network. Next year, the county will have low-latency broadband connectivity through the Starlink network – up to 45 households will be connected initially, and subsequently expanded to 90 customers as more satellites are launched.

SpaceX’s goal with Starlink is to provide broadband wireless Internet access worldwide at high speeds and with the lowest latency previously unavailable in sparsely populated areas. The constellation of satellites should in the future have thousands and even tens of thousands of satellites.
