According to the developer, the size of future games on Unreal Engine 5  will greatly increase

Some games already take up a lot of storage space. For example, in early July, the size of the PC version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare exceeded 200 GB. And in the future, the problem of the “weight” of projects will only increase, including due to the peculiarities of the Unreal Engine 5. This opinion was expressed by Ryan Shah, CEO and lead programmer of Status and Friends, in an interview with Wccftech.

In an interview, the executive said, “ [UE5] looks fantastic, especially the Nanite technology. After demonstrating it, I had to lift my jaw off the floor. Thanks to this innovation, difficulties with creating resources will disappear, but at the same time, big problems [of a different nature] will appear. One example is Call of Duty: Warzone, or rather, the size of the battle royale for which people criticize Activision. I think when we get Unreal Engine 5 technologies that will allow us to use the original source textures and more, the “weight” of games will begin to grow rapidly, which will become a new problem. ”

In the interview, Ryan Shah also praised Epic Games for an interesting presentation on the next iteration of the engine and hoped that UE5’s potential would be relatively easy to realize. Learn more about Unreal Engine 5 and its announced innovations here.
