All Ampere game chips will be manufactured by Samsung. NVIDIA considers its 8nm process technology better than TSMC’s 7nm

As soon as NVIDIA officially confirmed that Samsung’s Ampere gaming GPUs are 8nm technology, this information sparked a lot of speculation about the US developer’s relationship with TSMC. NVIDIA representatives emphasized that Samsung will exclusively release all Ampere generation gaming products.

It must be admitted that the CFO of NVIDIA Colette Kress (Colette Kress), even before the announcement of the GeForce RTX 30 series video cards, persistently prepared the public for the recognition of Samsung as an equal contractor with TSMC. She has repeatedly stated that TSMC and Samsung are equally involved in the development of several previous generations of NVIDIA gaming products, at an analyst event after the announcement of the GeForce RTX 30xx family, the CFO added that Samsung has released gaming products for NVIDIA more than once in the past.

One of the most interesting statements from NVIDIA representatives was the explanation of the reasons for choosing 8nm process technology by Samsung for the production of Ampere generation gaming products. According to Colette Kress, this process technology provides faster performance compared to 7nm technology in TSMC’s execution.

Jeff Fisher, NVIDIA’s senior vice president of gaming products, added that all Ampere gaming solutions will be exclusively manufactured by Samsung, and he sees no reason why anything will change in the foreseeable future. Fischer did not comment on rumors about Samsung’s problems with the supply of new video chips in sufficient quantities but explained that the shortage of video cards at the first stages of the start of sales is typical for any new generation of products, and Ampere does not stand out in this sense. On the first day of the start of sales, the video cards will go to stores, and the availability situation will gradually improve as the season of Christmas sales in the US and Europe approaches.
