Second quarter statistics released
While the Chinese smartphone market is almost entirely divided between six manufacturers , the US market is actually captured by only two or three, depending on how significant the share is.

In the second quarter of this year, Apple dominated the U.S. market with a 55% share, more than double Samsung’s 23% share in second place, according to Counterpoint.
Americans buy almost exclusively iPhones, Samsungs and some Motorolas.
That is, both companies in total control 78% of the market. Simply put, US residents have little interest in smartphones unless it’s an iPhone or a Samsung.

Still, Motorola’s 9% is also a considerable share. In fact, Motorola occupies about the same share relative to Samsung as Samsung relative to Apple. Another 3% is occupied by Alcatel / TCL and the same amount by Google.
Over the year, Apple increased its share by an impressive 10 percentage points, Motorola held its own, and Samsung lost 5 percentage points. Also important, Alcatel/TCL’s share has more than halved, while Google’s share has tripled.
