Android 11 brings wireless Android Auto to all smartphones

This time, the information was shared not by another enthusiast, but by Google itself. She updated the Android Auto support page, which describes which countries the platform can be used in and which phone is required for wireless connectivity.

Instead of the usual message that Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Android 10 and Android 9 Pie are suitable for a wireless connection, the following is now indicated:

Any smartphone with Android 11.0 can work on Wi-Fi networks with the 5 GHz band. In the EU, smartphones must meet additional regulations in order to use 5 GHz Wi-Fi in your car. The smartphone made by Google or Samsung with Android 10.0. Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 + or Note 8 running Android 9.0 ”.

Thus, for smartphones with Android 10 and Android 9 Pie, the situation has not changed. However, all smartphones with Android 11 and 5GHz Wi-Fi support will be able to connect to Android Auto wirelessly.

More than two years ago, Google implemented a wireless connection in Android Auto, previously requiring smartphones to be connected via USB to the car system. However, wireless connectivity was only supported for branded Pixel and Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
