Anthem Restart Canceled – BioWare To Focus On Dragon Age And Mass Effect

After over a year of an internal restructuring of the online role-playing action game Anthem, Electronic Arts and BioWare have decided to discontinue development and move on to other projects.

Executive Producer Christian Dailey explained that the decision to end Anthem was motivated by a combination of the impact of COVID-19 and a desire to focus on BioWare’s Dragon Age and Mass Effect projects.

“I know this will upset the Anthem community, who were excited to see the improvements being made. It also frustrates the team who have done a brilliant job. For me personally, Anthem is what brought me to BioWare, and the past two years have been some of the most challenging and rewarding of my career, ” Daily wrote.

Daly also noted that BioWare would continue to maintain Anthem’s servers.

Anthem’s launch was unsuccessful and riddled with bugs. The game was also criticized for its boring story and poor content support, although the combat system was interesting. The publisher ultimately decided to relaunch Anthem in late 2019. It took BioWare over a year to completely change the core game loop and mechanics: rewards, quests, and social elements. Earlier this month, Electronic Arts reportedly checked the project’s status and subsequently called for it to stop development.

Anthem is out on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
