Apple and Samsung will not use Chinese OLED displays in flagship smartphones

Internet sources confirm earlier reports that Apple and Samsung have decided not to use BOE displays in their flagship smartphones.

We are talking about organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels. The Chinese company BOE hoped to conclude contracts for the supply of such screens for future Apple iPhone 12 devices, which will be announced this fall, as well as for devices of the Samsung Galaxy S21 family, which are scheduled to debut in the first quarter of 2021.

The OLED samples provided by Apple and Samsung to BOE have not passed quality control from either potential customer. Therefore, Samsung will use OLED panels from its own Samsung Display facility in the Galaxy S21 devices.

At the same time, it is reported that BOE plans to become one of the largest players in the OLED panel market in the future. The Chinese manufacturer is actively investing in related technologies, hoping to conclude agreements with Apple and Samsung in the future.

We add that BOE is currently one of the world’s largest suppliers of LCD panels.
