The first letters in the name of the operating system xrOS mean extended reality (extended reality)
According to Bloomberg, Apple has decided on the name of the operating system under which the mixed reality headset will work.
“The company recently changed the name of the operating system from rrealityOS to xrOS,” Mark Gurman told Bloomberg, citing people who asked not to be named as the project has yet to be announced.
According to Gurman, the first letters in the name of the xrOS operating system mean extended reality. This is in line with Apple’s long-term vision of what the platform could become. Apple is expected to release an expensive mixed reality headset with premium hardware.
Apple’s future mixed reality products are expected to include augmented reality glasses and possibly contact lenses as the technology reaches new heights.
Gurman adds that engineers from Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Notes, and Apple News are involved in the project. This suggests that Apple is enlisting core application development teams to improve the headset as much as possible.
