Apple CEO says he sees huge potential in augmented reality
Apple CEO Tim Cook rarely gives details on unannounced products, but in a recent interview with Kara Swisher for The New York Times, he hints at what Apple thinks about augmented reality (AR).
In particular, he agreed with Ms. Swisher’s words that this technology is critical to Apple’s future. According to the manager, it can be used to improve communication. “We are having a great conversation with you right now. Perhaps it would be even better if we could supplement our discussion with diagrams or other things that appear right in front of us, ”said Mr. Cook.
The Apple head suggests AR will be heavily used in healthcare, education, retail, and gaming. “I’m already seeing AR now experiencing rapid growth in some of these areas thanks to smartphones. And I think the future promises much more, ”he stressed.
For years, there have been rumors that Apple is working on an augmented reality headset, and recent leaks indicate that a similar mixed reality device could arrive next year. AR capabilities are available on iPhones and iPads today, but aside from some fun Snapchat filters, AR isn’t widely used.
