Apple controls nearly half of the US smartphone market

Canalys has released statistics on the US smartphone market for the second quarter of this year: against the backdrop of the pandemic, the industry showed a 5 percent decline on an annualized basis.

For three months – from April to June – about 31.9 million “smart” cellular devices were delivered to the USA. For comparison: a year earlier, shipments were equal to 33.4 million units.

However, analysts say, 11% growth was recorded on a quarterly basis. This suggests that the smartphone market has begun to gradually recover from the impact of the coronavirus. Apple is the undisputed leader in the United States, controlling almost half of the industry – 47.1%. In second place is the South Korean giant Samsung with 23.2%. Thus, these two companies are responsible for the supply of every seven out of ten smartphones to the US market.

LG is in third place with 11.0%. Next are Lenovo and TCL, whose results in the last quarter were 6.9% and 4.0%, respectively. All other manufacturers collectively account for only 7.7% of the US smartphone market.
