Apple pauses talks with Hyundai on electric vehicle production

For several months now, the media has been actively discussing the Hyundai carmaker’s possible involvement in the production of electric vehicles for Apple. The Korean giant is expected to provide the customer with its platform and Kia manufacturing facilities in the United States. Meanwhile, negotiations are suspended, and other possible partners have appeared in Apple’s field of vision.

The fact that Korean companies can be involved in the creation of the first electric car of the Apple brand was already announced the day before. Bloomberg notes that negotiations with Hyundai and its subsidiary Kia have been suspended due to the lack of significant progress. As explained by informed sources, Apple is at the same time upset by making public the very fact of the negotiations, and the company always pays close attention to maintaining confidentiality.

It was not specified when negotiations with Hyundai would resume. The list of alternative partners of Apple from among the automakers is also not defined. Within the Korean automaker, some contradictions hinder the success of negotiations with Apple. The automaker cannot decide which brand will take on producing electric vehicles for the customer – Hyundai or Kia. As noted earlier, the parent company is concerned about increased competition from Apple, and Kia has spare manufacturing capacity in the US.
