Apple plans to introduce paid subscription to podcasts with exclusive content

The 9to5Mac portal, citing The Information and Bloomberg, reports that Apple is preparing to launch a paid subscription to its podcasts. Subscribers will have access to unique content that will be created by authors who have entered into a partnership with Apple.

The company is already in talks with podcast studios to create original content, according to a published Bloomberg report. In addition to subscribing to original content, the publication also mentions the possibility of paying for individual podcasts – this approach can give content authors even more money from their activities. This means that podcast owners will have the option to enable paid listening to their content, which is not related to Apple’s subscription. This can provide an opportunity to stay afloat or, conversely, come into the industry for authors with content that is difficult to produce. And, of course, this could force some studios to switch from other services (such as Spotify) to Apple. Spotify offers creators monetization only as part of royalties from paid subscribers. The Information warns

Bloomberg announced the company’s plans to fund exclusive content on the platform back in May 2020. This follows Spotify’s exclusive deal for the podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience”.
