Apple to end support for iPhone 6S in iOS 15

Although the iPhone 6S turns six this year, Apple is still releasing the latest versions of iOS for this device. Thanks to this, the once flagship smartphone is still a great alternative to modern budget phones. It is reported that with the release of iOS 15, support for it, the original iPhone SE and the company’s other devices based on the A9 chipset will be discontinued.

It is reported that not only the 2015 iPhone 6S, 6S Plus and SE will lose official support, but also the iPad mini 4, Air 2 and the 2017 budget iPad. It is gratifying that such a fate will not yet befall the first generation of the iPad Pro, which is based on the A9X chipset. Probably, its performance will be enough for the full functionality of iOS 15. Apple has been updating branded devices for a long time, and the termination of their support is often associated with a lack of performance for launching new versions of the OS.

Apple last cut the list of supported devices with the release of iOS 13 in 2019. Then major OS updates ceased to receive such smartphones as the iPhone 5S, released back in 2013, and the iPhone 6, as well as the iPod Touch 6, the original iPad Air and the second-generation iPad mini. However, these devices still receive security patches and minor performance improvements.
