But Apple still remains a market leader
Canalys analysts estimated the market for smartwatches in the first quarter of 2020. It turned out that, despite the pandemic, it still grew by 12%, to 14.3 million units.
Apple Watch sales are falling, but Huawei smartwatches are actively growing
Of course, Apple remains the undisputed market leader, but Apple’s sales dipped 13%. That is, relative to the market as a whole, the dynamics of the Cupertino giant was very deplorable, which is clearly due to high prices for the Apple Watch.
However, the company still sold 5.2 million hours, occupying 36.3% of the market. But Huawei was able not only to increase sales by more than twice (by 113%) but also to bypass Samsung, taking as a result the second place with a share of 14.9% and sales of 2.1 million devices. Samsung sold 1.8 million, increasing shipments by 46%.
Also in the top five are Garmin and Fitbit. The first sold 1.1 million hours, increasing the figure by 39%, but the second sale dipped 21% to 0.9 million. The remaining market players in total increased sales by 24%. Thus, the market as a whole could grow much more if not for the recession at Apple.
