Assassin’s Creed Valhalla narrative director talks about how developers come up with references to past games in the series

Edition Kotaku communicates with narrative director Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Darby McDevitt (Darby McDevitt). In a conversation, he explained how the developers tie the different parts of the franchise together. It turned out that Ubisoft does not have a single big plan: various references and intricacies of facts arise during production.

Darby McDevitt’s commentary states: “Much of this material comes from thinking directly into development. When it all comes together, we see connections to other [Assassin’s Creed] games and use them

“I remembered, ” the narrative director continued, “ that fans were wondering why Edward Kenway gave his son the Arabic name Haytham. And when it came time to name the two assassins [from Valhalla], I suggested Haytham or Hytham, implying that Edward named his son after the killer who brought the Invisibles back to England

In a conversation, McDevitt also confirmed that the three assassins from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla are a reference to Altair’s main mission from the first installment of the series. According to the narrative director, this is how the developers were able to pay tribute to the story that started the franchise.
