ASUS B450 and X470 motherboards received BIOS with Ryzen 5000 support. But their installation raises concerns

ASUS, as promised earlier, has released a special beta BIOS for motherboards based on AMD X470 and B450 chipsets. The microcode is based on the fresh AGESA V2 PI 1.1.8.0 protocol, which adds support for the new Ryzen 5000 series processors. However, to use the new BIOS version, the owners of the above motherboards will have to make a number of serious compromises.

In the note to the update, ASUS indicates that it strongly does not recommend updating to the new beta BIOS version if the motherboard uses a processor from the Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 2000, Ryzen 1000 series, as well as the A-series for Socket AM4.

The manufacturer does not clarify whether these chips can continue to work on these motherboards after a BIOS update. It is highly likely that as the safest way to update, you will need a motherboard with fast BIOS update technology, which will allow this operation even without a processor installed.

An additional disadvantage of upgrading to a new beta BIOS with support for Ryzen 5000 processors is the fact that after the upgrade, ASUS motherboard users will not be able to “rollback” to the previous version of the microcode. At your own risk, the beta BIOS with support for Ryzen 5000 processors can be downloaded from the official page of a particular motherboard on the ASUS website.
