Atari VCS retro console creators do not count on instant popularity
In the middle of summer, it became known that the Atari VCS game console, which has been developed over several years, may still enter the market this fall. Like the current innovations from Sony and Microsoft, it should be based on an AMD processor, but not a specially created one, but an adapted Ryzen hybrid. The creators of the retro console said that they do not pretend to an instant increase in demand.
A complete set of Atari VCS with game controllers of two types, we recall, is estimated at $ 390, which seems quite self-confident against the background of the announced prices for more modern game consoles from Microsoft and Sony. The most affordable version of the Atari VCS console with reduced to 4 GB of RAM will be offered for $ 250, but each of the game controllers will have to be purchased for $ 60.
The Atari gaming console will begin shipping in November, its creators admitted in an interview with Bloomberg. Users will have access to hundreds of classic games, and there will be new games for this platform. In keeping with the spirit of the times, Atari expects to release its cryptocurrency for settlements within the ecosystem – virtual coins are called Atari Tokens. The issue is scheduled for the end of October, with investors outside the United States being offered four million coins at 25 cents.
According to representatives of Atari, the new game console should be considered more a competitor to the iPhone than products from Sony and Microsoft. So far, more than 11,500 customers have pre-orders for the Atari VCS. According to IDC experts, the key audience of the console is the fans of the previous version, familiar from the eighties of the last century. Younger buyers with this pricing policy will be difficult for Atari to attract. The creators of the Atari VCS claim that they do not expect an immediate rise in popularity, it will be a console with a multi-year life cycle.
