CDPR promised to fix a vulnerability in Cyberpunk 2077, through which hackers can gain access to players’ computers

Recently it became known that there is a dangerous vulnerability in Cyberpunk 2077: using mods and save files, hackers can gain access to users’ computers. Attackers are able to run malicious code in order to get personal information or block the system. The publication Eurogamer asked for comment on this matter at CD Projekt RED and received a response. The developers are aware of the problem and are working on a fix.

CDPR’s official statement on the situation reads: “Part of the community has approached us to draw attention to an issue with external DLL files that the game uses. This vulnerability can potentially be exploited as part of the remote execution code on the PC. We value user input and are working to fix the issue as soon as possible. For now, we advise you to refrain from downloading files from unknown sources. Anyone planning to use mods or save files should exercise caution until we release the above fix

Unfortunately, CD Projekt RED did not indicate when the patch will be released. At the moment, there is only a fan patch on the Web: it was posted on GitHub and an open-source file was attached, so anyone can check the fix.
