Close to photorealism: blogger showed what The Witcher 3 looks like in 8K with imitation of ray tracing on RTX 3090

The author of the YouTube channel Digital Dreams publishes videos in which he significantly transforms games through modifications. He recently showed what a potential Fallout: New Vegas remaster might look like, and is now tackling The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The blogger launched an action RPG from CD Projekt RED in 8K and with more than fifty modifications installed, including imitation of ray-tracing effects. The author showed the result of his work in a fresh video.

Thanks to this, the visual component of The Witcher 3 has been completely transformed. There is no need to talk about one hundred percent photorealism, but the final result is very different from the original graphics. The blogger has significantly improved the quality of textures, making them clearer and more detailed. The same goes for vegetation and surrounding objects. The visual effects of wind and fire have also been completely changed, which can be appreciated during the battle with wolves. In addition, it is worth noting the impressive drawing distance, thanks to which the landscapes in the game become even more attractive.

The author of the Digital Dreams channel managed to achieve this effect thanks to the 8K resolution and the installation of fifty modifications. Among them was ReShade with the RayTraced Global Illumination shader by Pascal Gilcher. It simulates the real-time global illumination effect that ray tracing technology creates.

Often, when using so many mods, the frame rate suffers. But in the Digital Dreams video, serious subsidence was not noticeable, although the textures were sometimes drawn right in front of the eyes. However, the game was played on a computer with an MSI GeForce RTX 3090 VENTUS 3X graphics card, so this performance should not be surprising.
