Corsair to provide 12-pin power cable for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series graphics cards

A week ago, NVIDIA officially unveiled the powerful Ampere family of graphics cards – GeForce RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 video cards. In addition to improving performance, these products are introducing a new 12-pin power connector. Corsair announced the development of a custom cable for this technical solution.

To supply power to the Ampere accelerators, there is a special adapter for a 12-pin connector from a pair of 8-pin ones. This eliminates the need to purchase a new power supply provided there is sufficient power (for the GeForce RTX 3090, for example, a unit with a capacity of at least 850 W is recommended).

Corsair decided to go the other way. The company says the adapters look ugly and increase resistance. Therefore, Corsair decided to create a dedicated power cable for NVIDIA Ampere generation accelerators.

The Corsair design directly connects the two 8-pin PCIe / CPU connectors on the company’s power supply to the 12-pin graphics card connector. The cable will be compatible with all Corsair PSUs with modular cable management.

Corsair is currently completing the testing of new items. The cable will go on sale this month at an unnamed price.
