Demand for NVIDIA Turing graphics cards will grow after the release of new game consoles

Demand for NVIDIA Turing graphics cards will grow after the release of new game consoles

Very soon, according to the hints from NVIDIA on social networks, the company will introduce new gaming graphics cards with the Ampere architecture. The range of Turing graphics solutions will be reduced, and shipments of selected models will cease. The release of new Sony and Microsoft game consoles, according to Bank of America analysts, will spur demand not only for new Ampere video cards but also for more mature Turing cards.

This time, representatives of Bank of America Securities operate with publicly available data – Steam statistics, according to which half of the users of this system are content with graphics solutions of the Pascal generation, which debuted in 2016 far by industry standards. No more than 10% of video cards used by Steam customers are capable of demonstrating performance comparable to the new Sony and Microsoft game consoles on AMD components. As game developers will focus on the hardware configuration of the new consoles, PC platform enthusiasts will have to adjust to new hardware requirements.

In other words, nearly 90% of Steam’s customer base will want to upgrade their graphics cards when new consoles are released. This will increase demand not only for the latest and more expensive NVIDIA video cards of the Ampere family but also for their predecessors, the Turing family. Now, three-quarters of Steam customers prefer NVIDIA products, although you need to trust the statistics with reservations since the influence of Chinese Internet cafes on it leads to significant distortions of the picture.

Bank of America analysts point to another strength of NVIDIA’s business – server components, which are still in high demand. The company is let down only by the sales of auto components and professional graphic solutions for visualization, but these phenomena are either seasonal in nature or are provoked by a pandemic that will end sooner or later. The authors of the analytical note raise the forecast for the NVIDIA stock price from $ 460 to $ 520 at the current value of about $ 446.
