First of all, Activision spoke about the content of the standard edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The digital version includes a copy of the game as well as the Confrontation Weapons Pack. Pre-ordering you will receive early access to the multiplayer open beta and the Woods Operator Pack for immediate use in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone. Includes Sergeant Frank Woods Skin, M4 Assault Rifle Blueprint, Quote, and Execution.

Console digital versions of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War can be upgraded to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions with increased frame rates, ray tracing, shorter load times, and improved graphics. The PS4 and Xbox One versions can also be launched thanks to backward compatibility, but without an upgrade.

As for the boxed editions, everything is not so simple here. The PlayStation 4 version will support the upgrade to the PlayStation 5 through the purchase of the corresponding add-on from the PlayStation Store. At the same time, to access the updated version of the game on the PlayStation 5 (it will be downloaded as a digital version), a PS4 disc must be in the drive of the next-generation console. There is no option for PlayStation 5 Digital Edition buyers.

The boxed standard edition of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War on Xbox One basically cannot be upgraded to Xbox Series X. And the PC version will not be released on disc – it can only be purchased digitally.

But Activision Blizzard will also release the boxed standard edition for next-gen consoles separately. In the case of the PlayStation 5, it will include the corresponding copy of the game that will not play on the PlayStation 4. The Xbox Series X edition, however, has support for the Xbox One.

In addition, the digital edition “Two Generations” will go on sale for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which will be slightly more expensive, but will include support for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, respectively. Two Generations also includes early access to the multiplayer open beta and the Woods Operator Pack.

Finally, users can purchase the digital Ultimate Edition, which includes a copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War for two generations of consoles (PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or Xbox One and Xbox Series X) or PC (Battle.net) kits Confrontation Weapons Pack and Land, Sea & Air, and Season One Battle Pass Bundle. Pre-ordering this edition from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and/or Call of Duty: Warzone will instantly reward you with 10 Battle Pass levels.
