Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 performs best
Smartphones with 5G have long been the norm even in the budget segment, but as a recent study shows, it may make sense for some users to abandon 5G in favor of 4G, in return they will receive an increase in the autonomy of their smartphone.
Ookla tests show that running a smartphone on 5G networks leads to more power consumption, and the difference is noticeable. Depending on the single-chip system, the difference can reach 6-11%.
Disable 5G to get more autonomy.
On the diagram, you can see the percentage of battery consumption when using a 4G or 5G network during the test. Qualcomm’s current top platform is the most efficient in 5G mode, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has a much larger difference between 4G and 5G modes than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and in general the new SoC is much more energy efficient. In the case of Dimensity, the situation is the same: Dimensity 9200 is much more efficient than Dimensity 9000.
Thus, by switching to 4G, you can increase the autonomy of your smartphone quite well, although you still won’t be able to achieve some huge increase. However, here we see only tests of the flagship SoCs, and it is not clear whether there is the same difference in the platforms of the lower segments.
