Discovery: NPC faces in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild were made from Mii

The Legend of Zelda’s creators: Breath of the Wild used Nintendo’s old Mii Maker technology to achieve such colourful NPCs. Fans have long joked that this is how the company generated Zelda’s characters, which turned out to be true. This was figured out and told by a Twitter user.

According to self-proclaimed “Mii Expert” @HEYimHeroic, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild uses an advanced version of the Mii format. This means that with some modifications, gamers can bring their Mii into the game and transform them as Hyrule characters.

On Reddit, the user added that the game code refers to a more advanced version of Mii called Mii. The latter’s characters have the same parameters as the Mii on the Nintendo Wii U and 3DS but have minor differences in other ways. For example, they no longer support moles.

However, Mii in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also doesn’t support all Mii hairstyles. If you try to download them, the game will ask for a separate file, eventually converting the unsupported hairstyle to the supported hair type. As a result, the character looks almost like the one you wanted to download.

@HEYimHeroic also clarified that Link, Zelda and other important characters were not created through Mii.
