DJI will now replace the drone at half price if it flies away from the owner
The Chinese company DJI, as part of an extended warranty, began offering DJI Flyaway Coverage service to replace the Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2 drones in case they fly away from the owner. Previously, the extended warranty only covered damage. The cost of replacing the “escaped” Mini 2 is $ 225, the Mavic Air 2 is $ 399, which is half the price of a new drone.
The DJI Care Refresh Extended Warranty itself costs $ 50 for the Mini 2 and $ 80 for the Mavic 2. The Extended Warranty also entitles you to replace the drone if damaged. A damaged drone can be replaced twice a year at an additional cost. There is a one-time limit for reimbursement in case of an “escape” – if the drone received in return also flies away, then it will not be replaced. However, the company has a two-year version of the warranty, which is more expensive, but covers three accidents and two drones “escapes”.
The replacement cost is half that of a new drone, which is quite expensive compared to, for example, AppleCare Plus with Theft and Loss, which charges just $ 149 to replace a lost or stolen iPhone. In addition, DJI’s warranty coverage does not apply to those who have stolen the drone or lost it.
