Dozens of iPhones of Kaspersky Lab employees were infected with spyware

“Kaspersky Lab” has not yet found “an effective way to remove spyware”

The head of Kaspersky Lab, Evgeny Kaspersky, announced the discovery of a cyberattack carried out using the iPhone. As a result of the actions of intruders, spyware is installed on devices.

Our company’s experts have discovered an extremely complex professional targeted cyberattack using Apple mobile devices. The purpose of the attack was the inconspicuous introduction of a spy module into the iPhone of the company’s employees, both top management and middle managers ,” Kaspersky said. He suggested that Kaspersky Lab was not the main target of this operation. The spyware itself was called Triangulation.

“ Due to the peculiarities of blocking iOS updates on infected devices, we have not yet found an effective way to remove spyware without losing user data ,” Kaspersky said. Due to the closed nature of iOS, there are no standard tools for detecting Triangulation, so you need to resort to external tools to remove the software.

The attack itself is carried out using an invisible iMessage message with a malicious attachment, it exploits vulnerabilities in iOS and installs spyware, all hidden from the user. The software itself secretly transmits private information (microphone recordings, photos, geotags) to remote servers.

“ The investigation into the spy operation Triangulation is just beginning. Today we are publishing the first results of the analysis, but there is still a lot of work ahead , ”Kaspersky Lab reported.

Recall that earlier the FSB revealed the operation of US intelligence agencies to hack “thousands” of iPhones in Russia .
