Earning XP, Mako and Squad Management: New Mass Effect Legendary Edition Details

As part of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition, Electronic Arts and BioWare have changed a lot in the trilogy. Earlier, we talked about adjusting the combat system in the Mass Effect remaster. Here we will talk about the changes in the gameplay in all three games and “Mako” in the first part.

To bring the gameplay of the first Mass Effect closer to the rest of the trilogy, BioWare has changed the combat system and many other aspects of the game. For example, in the battle with the boss on Noveria, the room became a little more spacious, and the enemy’s biotic abilities were weaker. Also, the squad members can now be controlled separately (as in Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3), and battles with some enemies and bosses have been made more honest for the players while leaving them quite difficult. Also, the cover has been improved throughout the trilogy, with more cover in some encounters and improved entry and exit processes.

In the first Mass Effect, the balance of the accrual of experience was changed. Now players who take everything from the project – explore the world, complete additional tasks, and engage in other activities – will reach high levels in one playthrough. Besides, the maximum level cap has been removed.

And in Mass Effect 2, the speed of obtaining ammunition was increased, especially when using a sniper rifle. In the original game, gamers suffered from too little ammo.

Returning to the first part, the Mako transport was “calibrated” in the Legendary Edition. It has become more comfortable to control, its shields now recover faster, and boosters have appeared in the rear. Moreover:

  • fixed the problems related to the impossibility of accurate aiming at the target “Mako” at low angles of aim;
  • removed experience penalty while in Mako;
  • Now hitting lava does not immediately fail the mission – instead, delayed damage is dealt.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be released on May 14, 2021, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
