The AI.com domain, which was bought by ChatGPT’s OpenAI earlier this year, is now owned by Elon Musk. Now this address leads to the website of xAI, a machine learning startup launched by Elon Musk.
The billionaire announced the creation of the startup xAI in mid-July, saying that the goal of the project is to “understand the true nature of the universe.” At the same time, the x.ai website began its work, to which AI.com now redirects.

It is not entirely clear why OpenAI decided to sell the domain. They may have decided that ChatGPT is already so famous that they don’t need such a domain, but the money they could get for it would help.
These domains typically cost millions or tens of millions of dollars. Last year, the IT.com domain was sold for more than $3.8 million. And domains with the word AI can be very expensive due to the popularity of the topic of artificial intelligence lately.
It is worth noting that Elon Musk stood at the origins of OpenAI, but later left the company.
