It has long been known that Elon Musk is moving from California to Texas. Musk’s businesses have begun building new factories for batteries, electric pickups, and even spaceships in the United States’ southern state. At the same time, Texas inherits a clearly backward power distribution system, which was initially focused on oil and gas. Then it began to be transferred to serve electricity from renewable sources. The numerous victims of the recent winter frosts in Texas, who were suddenly and permanently deprived of electricity and heat, can tell a lot and detail what came of this.

It can be assumed that Elon Musk, having decided to settle in Texas, first of all, took care of the stability of the power supply. One of Musk’s subsidiaries, Gambit Energy Storage LLC, is working to create storage capacities. The battery’s estimated capacity will be at least 100 MW, which may be enough to supply electricity to 20,000 homes during peak hours. Musk’s company was one of the first to implement such a project in Australia. Another project in the USA was near Los Angeles, but the battery capacity there was five times less – only 20 MW. Finally, PG&E and Tesla are building a 182 MW battery substation in the San Francisco Bay Area. Commissioning is expected by August this year.

The battery near Houston is planned to be commissioned by June 1 of this year. The authorities of the town where the battery is being built do not have information about the facility’s capacity. However, they are ready to confirm the fact of connection to the power distribution network. Tesla and subsidiary Gambit Energy Storage declined to comment.
