Epic Games Paid Over $ Billion for Exclusive Game Releases on EGS
The litigation between Epic Games and Apple has already revealed many interesting details. For example, users learned that Sony demanded payment for crossplay on PlayStation 4 and found out how much the first nine months of distribution in the Epic Games Store cost. And now, PC Gamer reporters drew attention to a document with information about the total amount that Epic Games paid for exclusive game releases in its store.
The value of all transactions for the release of projects exclusively in EGS (within the PC or as a whole) cost $ 1.038 billion. In 2019, $ 444 million was spent on exclusives, $ 542 million in 2020, and $ 52 million in 2021. At the same time, for the release of Borderlands 3 in the Epic Games Store alone, $ 115 million had to be paid, that is, about a tenth of the total amount.
In 2021, the most high-profile exclusive of the service was the stealth action game Hitman 3 from IO Interactive. Most likely, most of the $ 52 million were paid for it. This amount is likely to increase even more because new exclusives will appear in the store in the months remaining until the end of the year. These include, for example, Kena: Bridge of Spirits and Chivalry 2.
