Facebook accidentally blocked some users of the Oculus Quest 2 VR headset

Facebook accidentally blocked a number of users of the new Oculus Quest 2 virtual reality headset. This became known after complaints from the owners of a new gadget that recently went on sale began to appear on the Web. They were unable to take advantage of the acquisition because Facebook blocked their academic records.

According to  The Verge, the official Oculus Twitter account urged users who have encountered such a problem to contact technical support, where they will try to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

The first blocking of users of new Oculus headsets during their configuration was reported by the UploadVR resource. For example, one of the users on the Reddit forum reported that he was blocked immediately after creating a Facebook page and merging the account with an existing Oculus account.

“Within minutes of merging accounts and changing profile settings, my account was blocked for no reason, turning my Quest 2 into a new trendy white paperweight,” The Verge quotes Oculus Quest 2 user.

After that, several more people complained about similar problems with an account in the same forum thread.

Recall that Quest 2 was the first Oculus headset to require the user to have an account on the social network Facebook for authorization. Those who previously used Oculus accounts on previous headsets but did not have a Facebook account will need to create one and merge both accounts. And it was this process that turned into problems for some users. In a comment provided to UploadVR, Oculus stated that it is addressing an issue with account access and purchased games.

“Someone may temporarily face a problem accessing content if they have problems logging into Quest 2 with their Facebook account. These users will be able to access their content as soon as the authorization problems are resolved, ”a company spokesman said.

New Oculus headset buyers who are already Facebook users can get around this problem by simply being prompted to sign in to their Oculus account via Facebook without having to merge their accounts.

As The Verge points out, the risk of blocking for Oculus Quest 2 users was quite predictable. The social network requires people to use their real names on the service and suspends accounts that it believes are inauthentic. The service can restore them if users submit photos of their driver’s licenses or other identification documents, but this process can be very long.
