Facebook announced its readiness to block risky publications for social networks

The social network Facebook announced its readiness to remove or block any content, the publication of which could pose regulatory or legal risks for the company. The new rule affects users of the social network around the world and even concerns content that does not violate the law.

The change to Facebook’s policy will take effect on October 1 and will provide the ability to take whatever action the company deems necessary to achieve its business goals in a changing regulatory environment. The decision to make this change was made against the backdrop of Australia’s intentions to pass a law requiring Facebook to pay media outlets to publish news content on the social network. Thus, if Facebook has to block Australian users from sharing news on the social network, then this will be in line with the company’s new policy.

“ We may also remove your content or restrict access to it, as well as services or information, if we understand that this is necessary to prevent or mitigate negative legal or regulatory consequences for Facebook, ” – said in a message sent by the company, which was sent to users.

It’s worth noting that this statement contrasts with the opinion of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who has spoken publicly about the importance of free speech. We will remind, earlier Facebook published a statement in which it was said about the company’s readiness to disable the function for Australian users to share news on the social network.
