Facebook confirmed it will release Ray-Ban smart glasses before the end of the year, but urged not to expect much from them

Facebook has confirmed the renowned Ray-Ban brand’s release dates, which it is currently working on with eyewear maker Luxottica. Their appearance should be expected at the end of this year.

Facebook CFO David Wehner (pictured above) warned users not to expect much from the upcoming device, as it will be far from what the company hopes to achieve with augmented reality technology.

“The first product that we will have in this area, I outline expectations, will not even come close to what we want in the end,” – said Wehner at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference. Thus, he confirmed to the head of the hardware solutions department of Facebook, Andrew Bosworth (Andrew Bosworth), that the debut smart glasses of Facebook will not support augmented reality technologies.

Facebook announced the smart glasses release in September 2020 but did not provide details on what features this device will have. The only thing that the company said then was that they would be released in 2021. In announcing the wearable device’s upcoming announcement, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it would mark a milestone when basic technology is integrated into regular glasses, and people can use them.
