Facebook introduced new features to improve the privacy of its branded messenger

Facebook today announced new features designed to improve the privacy of chats in its Messenger app. These tools will reportedly appear in the messenger shortly and will bring it one step closer to the best anonymous communication programs on the market.

The first of these features is called App Lock. It allows you to protect the application in such a way that to access it, the user will have to pass authentication with a fingerprint or enter a password. Facebook claims that none of the data received will be stored or sent to the company’s servers. The new feature is available to all iPhone and iPad owners today, but Android device owners will be able to take advantage of it in the next few months.

In addition, Facebook said it is working on new controls that will allow Messenger users to choose who can send messages and call them in the app and who can’t. These elements are being developed based on similar elements for Instagram, which were introduced back in December 2019. The company also said it is working on additional ways to protect Messenger users, such as blurring images in the chat requests folder, which will be useful when receiving messages from strangers.

These opportunities will undoubtedly be warmly received by many fans of Facebook services. However, the company should also pay attention to internal security, since leaks of user data from its side have become commonplace.
