Facebook lashed out at Apple criticizing new iOS privacy rules

Facebook bought out space on the pages of several of the largest American newspapers to criticize Apple. The reason for this behaviour was the new privacy rules, the observance of which will soon become mandatory for all developers of iOS applications publishing their products in the official App Store. According to Facebook, the new rules, which will significantly complicate the collection of user data, will harm small businesses.

According to reports, a Facebook post titled “ We Stand Against Apple for Small Business Around the World ” will be featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post. In this post, the company will reflect its views on the upcoming changes in iOS 14 that will limit the ability of companies like Facebook to collect data about mobile users to serve them personalized ads.

As recently as last month, Facebook announced that Apple’s new rules would do significant damage to small businesses, which make up the bulk of the social media giant’s advertisers. The company noted that non-personalized ads generate 60% fewer sales than those that target specific users. In response, Apple accused Facebook of “disregarding the privacy of user data.”

Facebook has also said on several occasions that App Store service charges of 30% of transactions and upcoming privacy policy changes are harming small businesses that have yet to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
