Facebook Messenger has a restriction on message forwarding

Facebook continues to fight the spread of misinformation on its platforms. This time, it was announced about the introduction of restrictions on the mass mailing of messages in the proprietary messenger Facebook Messenger. Now the service allows simultaneous sending of messages to no more than five users or groups.

The developers announced their decision on the official Facebook blog, stressing that the restriction was introduced in order to provide users with a “safer and more personal messaging experience”, especially in the context of the ongoing global health crisis and ahead of the US presidential election.

Obviously, the company believes that limiting the simultaneous sending of messages is an effective means of fighting the viral spread of disinformation and malicious content. In July, a similar restriction was imposed on the WhatsApp messenger, which is also owned by Facebook.

“ As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure secure and confidential messaging, today we are introducing a forwarding limit on Messenger so messages can only be sent to five people or groups at a time. Restricting uploads is an effective way to slow the spread of viral misinformation and malicious content that can do real harm, ”said Facebook.

Thus, the company continues to actively discourage the spread of misinformation, which is an important area of activity, as such messages can lead to serious consequences. In addition, instant messengers and social networks can be used to manipulate public opinion, which is also unacceptable given the upcoming US presidential elections.
