Facebook will soon expand the geography of the Novosti service
Facebook said it plans to accelerate the rollout of the News tab in some countries. This process will take from six months to a year. Facebook is targeting the UK, Germany, France, India, and Brazil markets, but the list is said to be expanding. The company said it will pay publishers to include their content in the News tab. Facebook News is as much an aggregator of news from various publications as Google News and Apple News.
According to Facebook, it takes time to bring Novosti to new markets, since consumer habits and news resources in different regions differ significantly in their specifics. The search engine giant will take these factors into account and respect publishers’ business models. Recall that until 2018 Facebook was a convenient platform for reading news, but later the algorithms of the social network were changed in such a way that the news feed gives out primarily the posts of friends.
Although Facebook is now targeting new markets, the company still plans to expand its news service in the United States, where it has been available for some time.
