Flagship for the poor: ten-core Intel Core i9-10850K priced at about $ 450

Flagship for the poor: ten-core Intel Core i9-10850K priced at about $ 450

About two weeks ago, we reported that a nanosized Intel Core i9-10850K deca-core processor appeared in the Geekbench database. It seems that this chip really exists. American gaming computer maker Digital Storm has begun offering it as an option for their builds.

In particular, we are talking about the computer model Digital Storm VELOX. The buyer is invited to choose as a basis for different options for processors and other components. According to Digital Storm, the base frequency of the Intel Core i9-10850K is 3.6 GHz, which is 100 MHz lower than the flagship of the Comet Lake-S series, the Core i9-10900K model. In the automatic overclocking mode, the frequency of the  Core i9-10850K  can be increased to 5.2 GHz, like the flagship. But, apparently, unlike the Core i9-10900K, the younger model does not have support for Thermal Velocity Boost (TVB) technology, which allows the processor to overclock in frequency even a little higher in the presence of very effective cooling.

We have already said that the Core i9-10850K has the same set of cores and virtual threads (10/20), as well as a similar set of cache memory (2.5 MB L2 and 20 MB L3) as the flagship. The TDP level is also the same and is 125 watts. The only thing that remains unknown is the cost of the Intel Core i9-10850K chip.

Digital Storm does not explicitly indicate it either. However, she says that the computer buyer will cost $ 42 less to install this processor than the Core i9-10900K.

According to Intel, the recommended cost of the flagship processor Core i9-10900K can vary from 488 to 499 US dollars. Thus, we can assume that the cost of the Core i9-10850K is 446-457 dollars. If we assume that such a processor will be available not only for computer OEMs (and so far, unfortunately, there is no information confirming the opposite), then its retail price can be about $ 450. In other words, Intel rates Thermal Velocity Boost technology at $ 50.
