Future BIOS revisions bring AMD Ryzen 5000 new overclocking controls

AMD Director of Technical Marketing Robert Hallock explained to the audience on the pages of the corporate blog that it makes sense for those wishing to install Ryzen 5000 processors in existing motherboards to focus on BIOS with AGESA version 1.1.0.0 or higher. Further microcode evolution will expand the overclocking controls.

In fact, for future versions of AGESA, it is promised to implement voltage reduction mechanisms when working with Ryzen 5000 processors. The fact is that those who want to reduce the power consumption of previous generations of processors still had the opportunity to use voltages below nominal, but for Ryzen 5000 series processors this function is currently not yet implemented. This issue will be fixed in the future.

AMD also promises to fight to improve the stability of the processors at the frequency of the Infinity Fabric bus around 2000 MHz. Synchronous operation of this bus with RAM, for example, allows for increased throughput. Not every processor is capable of operating at this frequency of Infinity Fabric, but AMD will try to improve the stability of the best samples in such conditions.

In future BIOS updates, AMD and its motherboard partners will provide additional features to make it easier to test processors under extreme overclocking using liquid nitrogen for cooling. Recall that the 16-core Ryzen 9 5950X has already demonstrated its ability to operate at frequencies above 6.3 GHz when cooled with liquid nitrogen.
