Analysts predict 11% growth
Gartner expects the smartphone market to grow this year
If this forecast comes true, smartphone sales in 2021 will approach the 2019 level. The market shrank by 10.5% in 2020 due to the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Consumers have cut spending on smartphones in 2020, but new models will lead to significant growth in demand in 2021,” said Anshul Gupta, senior research director at Gartner. “The deferred demand for replacement and the availability of low-cost 5G smartphones will help boost sales.”
Analysts believe the growing rollout of 5G networks, coupled with a wide variety of 5G smartphones starting at $ 200, will drive demand. They predict that in 2021, sales of 5G smartphones worldwide will amount to 539 million units or 35% of total sales.
