Gartner predicts global IT spending to reach $ 4.1 trillion this year

Gartner experts supplement their forecast with confidence that growth will continue in 2022. At the same time, an increase in costs is expected in all market segments.

Thus, the largest item of expenditure – telecommunications services – after last year’s reduction by 0.7% this year will increase by 4.6%, to 1.450 trillion dollars, and next year – by 3.7%, to 1.505 trillion dollars. The second-largest segment – IT services – will grow 9.0% this year to $ 1.113 trillion, and in the future – by 7.3%, to $ 1.193 trillion. Note that last year the cost of IT services decreased by 1.8%.

Spending on “devices”, which fell 6.9% last year, will grow 14.0% this year to $ 776 billion, and by another 3.1% in 2022 to $ 779 billion. Spending on enterprise software, down 2.1%, will grow 10.8% to reach $ 517 billion. In 2022, they will grow by 10.6% to $ 572 billion. Finally, spending on data center systems – the only segment to see growth in 2020 – is expected to grow 7.7% this year to $ 237 billion. In 2022, this segment is projected to grow by 4.5% to $ 248 billion.
