GAZelles and Rivian electric vans to use Mando autopilot components

Active driver assistance systems penetrate all market segments to prevent common rear-end collisions. Leaders of the Russian commercial equipment market are also thinking about equipping their machines with such systems. For example, GAZ Group will purchase components from Korea’s Mando, including radars and cameras.

The plans of Mando’s clients were revealed by the South Korean edition of Business Korea. The company has signed contracts with the Chinese manufacturer Voyah and the Russian GAZ Group. It will supply front cameras and radars for the corresponding brands’ cars, endowed with active driver assistance systems. The Korean manufacturer has serious ambitions in this market. In 2008, Mando formed a joint venture with the German Hella and recently bought out a partner’s share, making Mando Hella Electronics the sole owner. In addition to radars and cameras, MHE manufactures steering units and electronic components for the braking system.

With its manufacturing bases in China and India, Mando is looking to expand into European and North American markets. It has already partnered with Indian giants Mahindra & Mahindra. Mando active driver assistance systems will also be installed on Rivian electric vans, which Internet giant Amazon will buy from the American manufacturer. Most likely, specialized Mando components will appear not only on light commercial vehicles but also on buses and medium-duty trucks manufactured by GAZ Group.
