Ghost of Tsushima’s success comes as a surprise even to Sony

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan, in an interview with Games Industry, among other things, commented on the successes of the samurai action game Ghost of Tsushima from Sucker Punch Productions.

According to Ryan, the new creation of the American studio exceeded the expectations of the publisher, both in terms of finances and warmth of reception by representatives of the specialized press.

“Let’s talk about Ghost of Tsushima, which was critically and financially successful in ways we never imagined,” Ryan said.

No numbers were revealed: the last time the sales of Ghost of Tsushima were reported was in July when a samurai action game set a record for new intellectual property for Sony Interactive Entertainment games.

Within three days of release, Ghost of Tsushima has sold over 2.4 million copies. Since then, according to the tracker Gamstat, the project has attracted more than 3.1 million players.

The recent success of Ghost of Tsushima is probably due to the co-op mode “Legends” that has recently appeared in the game. The first “legendary” raid starts today, October 30th.

Ghost of Tsushima was released in July this year exclusively on PlayStation 4. Judging by the vacancy posted on the Sucker Punch Productions website, the studio does not intend to leave the entourage of feudal Japan in the near future.
