They started after the latest update.
According to posts on various online forums, many Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 users are experiencing issues with fast battery drain and overheating.
According to Engadget, the culprit could be a Google app and an update released on May 12th. Some users have rolled back to an older version of the Google app, but that only fixed the battery issue and the overheating still persisted. On the Reddit forums, the Google support forum, and on Twitter, many Pixel users are experiencing similar issues.
My Pixel 6 and my wife’s phone have been overheating since yesterday and actively using their battery without actually doing anything. They are not just warm, but hot. Smartphones lose 20% of their battery in less than an hour on standby. The culprit seems to be the latest Google app update that came out on May 12th.
Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 owners report issues
I’m in the same boat. It started yesterday. Active battery usage from the Google app and, to a lesser extent, Android System Intelligence. I just did a factory reset, reinstalled most things, but the problem didn’t go away. The phone gets very hot.
Some say the culprit is Android System Intelligence. Others feel that battery life has gotten worse since the May update.
I’m having the same issue, with wireless charging becoming impossible as the phone heats up, stops charging and just stays hot.
Judging by the reviews, Google is already aware of the problem.
