Hades Wins Most Highly Rated Game of 2020 on OpenCritic

On the home page of the video game review aggregator OpenCritic, a list of 12 of the most highly rated projects of 2020 has appeared, which constituted a new version of the local Hall of Fame.

Recall that remakes, remasters, extended editions and add-ons are automatically excluded from the Hall of Fame. Therefore, there was no place in the list, for example, Persona 5 Royal, although it is she who has the highest rating among critics (95 points out of 100).

Despite this, among the best projects of 2020 according to OpenCritic, there was a remake of Demon’s Souls, which also technically belongs to the galaxy of old games modernized for current consoles.

As explained in OpenCritic back in the spring, projects of this level (for example,  Final Fantasy VII Remake and  Resident Evil 2 ) represent significant efforts on the part of developers, and therefore meet the standards of the “Hall of Fame”.

With all that said, the top 12 highest-rated games of 2020 by OpenCritic looks like this:

  1. Hades – 94/100;
  2. The Last of Us Part II – 93/100;
  3. Half-Life: Alyx – 92/100;
  4. Demon’s Souls – 92/100;
  5. Microsoft Flight Simulator – 92/100;
  6. Crusader Kings III – 91/100;
  7. Ori and the Will of the Wisps – 90/100;
  8. Animal Crossing: New Horizons – 90/100;
  9. Dreams – 89/100;
  10. DOOM Eternal – 89/100;
  11. Legends of Runeterra – 88/100;
  12. Until You Fall – 88/100.

It is noteworthy that this is not the first such victory for the mythological roguelike Supergiant Games. Previously, the game topped the unofficial ranking of the highest-rated Steam projects for 2020.

As for the main competitor of OpenCritic, Metacritic, this aggregator does not have such strict requirements for the best projects of the year, and by the end of 2020, it is the expanded edition of Persona 5 that will almost certainly celebrate its triumph.
