Kirin 985 is only slightly faster than Kirin 820

Introduced a couple of days ago, the Honor 30 smartphone received the new Kirin 985 SoC. Given its name, it was originally supposed to be close to the Kirin 990, but yesterday’s tests put everything in place.

Honor president justifies the strange Kirin 985 platform, but it’s not very convincing

Kirin 985 is only slightly superior in performance to the Kirin 820, inferior to the Kirin 980, which looks funny at all. Why did Huawei need such a platform?

Honor brand president George Zhao answered this question. He said the Kirin 985 SoC is designed to fill the gap between the Kirin 820 and Kirin 990 and will target smartphones priced up to $ 420.

As we have already seen, as a bridge between the Kirin 820 and Kirin 990, the new platform is extremely unconvincing, but the mention of prices allows us to assume that it is all about simple marketing. The Kirin 820 will eventually appear in very affordable smartphones for less than $ 200, and installing it in devices worth $ 350-400 would not be very correct from a marketing point of view. This is probably why Kirin 985 appeared, which by name seems to be just a step away from the top Kirin 990, but in fact, it is only half a step ahead of Kirin 820.
