Its performance has been improved

A new version of the Hornet drone, which was dubbed “flying binoculars”, was shown at the international military-technical forum “Army-2023”, talking about the new characteristics of the UAV.

The details were announced by Vitaly Dolgov, head of the laboratory of external piloting and operation of unmanned aircraft of the Scientific Research Institute of Computing Systems named after. M. A. Kartseva.

The Shershen hexacopter was originally intended to disperse mass events using infrasonic weapons, but was upgraded into a reconnaissance drone, the so-called flying binoculars. The device is equipped with a video camera, a thermal imaging camera and repeaters. Two of our devices are currently being used in the special operation zone.

He added that the developers are expanding the capabilities of the device: “We are working to increase the length of the Hornet’s flight. The payload – infrasound – is also being finalized. After that, it is planned to conduct official tests with the involvement of volunteers.

“Hornet” can be used at temperatures from minus 20 to plus 40 °C. The drone can rise to a height of up to 3 km and move away from the operator at a distance of up to 20 km. At this distance, the possibility of video transmission is preserved. The maximum payload weight is 3 kg.

The Shershen quadrocopter was first presented at the Aeronet-2035 exhibition in Moscow last year . Initially, it was intended to suppress unmanned aerial vehicles and disperse riots. Since then, it has been substantially modified and improved.
