Horror The Medium offers two ray tracing modes and a range of lighting effects

The developers from Bloober Team talked about the ray tracing effects that the horror movie The Medium will support on PC. According to the team, the game will feature ray-traced reflections, traced-based flood shading, hybrid translucency, and shadows.

In more detail, The Medium will offer two modes for ray tracing on PC: performance and quality. In performance mode, the game will include ray-traced reflections and flood shading. In addition to reflections and RTAO, it will also offer hybrid translucency and traced shadows in quality mode. The quality mode will also use DLSS and some other NVIDIA enhancements. However, the Bloober Team claims that this mode will be demanding and is being created with an eye only for high-performance graphics accelerators.

The developers also shared some details on the storage requirements: “Since we have been using streaming level loading in our games for a long time, we have made every effort to work on PCs with the recommended specifications as close to the new Microsoft console as possible. For PC owners, an SSD is recommended but not required – yes, boot times will increase with a regular hard drive. It is worth saying that there is a tangible difference between the architecture of the console and the PC. “

“In a more technical sense, sequential reads from a standard hard drive to a PC averaged 100 MB / s, while previous generation consoles only offer a third of that value,” continued the Bloober Team. “So, if you add to that the I / O caching that the operating system manages on the PC, you can get boot times just a few seconds longer than the average SSD. Of course, there may be some delays in loading textures from time to time, but you can still enjoy The Medium from your hard drive

The Medium will be released on January 28, 2021, on PC (Steam and Microsoft Store), Xbox Series X and S. On launch day, the game will also be part of the Xbox Game Pass library. Previously, the official system requirements for the PC were published.
