Huawei has confirmed that the flexible smartphone Mate X2 will be very different from its predecessors

Huawei has posted another teaser for its upcoming foldable smartphone, the Mate X2, on the social network Weibo, once again hinting at a departure from the previous Mate X design. The original Mate X, introduced in 2019 and updated in 2020 to the Mate Xs, had one large screen. Which, when folded in half, remained outside the device. However, the next device looks different, closer to what we see in the Samsung Galaxy Fold series.

In the fresh official teaser of the Mate X2, the smartphone shows the assembly open at an angle and lighting on the inside of the hinge. The photo also confirms that the event will take place on February 22 at 15:00 Moscow time. The announcement will coincide with the Shanghai Mobile World Congress, which usually takes place in the summer. Still, this time the organizers have decided to swap places with the larger Barcelona event.

At the moment, the GSM Association still plans that the MWC in Barsenoe will be held in a full-fledged, full-time format from June 28, but these plans, of course, may change depending on the situation with quarantine measures against COVID-19. In any case, manufacturers are unlikely to carry over their flagship smartphones, which are usually presented in February and March.

Previous teasers and leaked also speak in favor of the new Huawei design in the spirit of the Galaxy Fold. The Huawei Mate X2 is expected to be based on the flagship 5nm HiSilicon Kirin 9000 5G chip. According to rumors, the basis of the novelty screen has a resolution of 2480 × 2222 with a diagonal of 8.01 inches. On the outside of the case is a 6.45-inch auxiliary display. The refresh rate in both cases will be 90 Hz. Power will be provided by a 4400 mAh battery with support for 66-W high-speed charging. The smartphone is credited with a quad-camera with a main 50-megapixel module and sensors for 16, 12, and 8 million pixels. The front camera will be 16-megapixel. There is no information on the release date of the smartphone on the world market. However, if this happens, the number of smartphones may be severely limited due to the impossibility of producing single-chip systems due to sanctions.
